Main Canal Concrete Lining — Phase IV

Project Overview

Phase IV continues the District's long-term program of replacing earthen canal sections with slip-formed concrete lining. Seepage testing along this reach measured losses of more than 15 percent of flow between the upstream and downstream measurement points during the summer irrigation season.

The lined section restores design capacity, allows higher flow velocities without bank erosion, and reduces the vegetation control and dredging required each year. Work is sequenced during the winter low-demand period so that deliveries to accounts served by the reach are not interrupted during peak season.

New measurement structures and staff gauges are installed at each lateral turnout along the reach, improving the accuracy of the water accounting reported to the Rio Grande Watermaster.
