Upcoming Election

The next general election for the Board of Directors will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with two director positions on the ballot. Early voting begins Monday, April 20, 2026 at the District office and continues through Tuesday, April 28, 2026 during regular business hours.

• First day to file an application for a place on the ballot: January 21, 2026
• Last day to file an application: February 13, 2026, 5:00 PM
• Last day to register to vote: April 2, 2026
• Last day to apply for a ballot by mail: April 21, 2026
• Election day polling location: District Board Room, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

How to Run for the Board

To serve as a director, a candidate must be at least 18 years of age, a resident citizen of Texas, a qualified voter within the District, and must own land subject to taxation or assessment within the District as required by the Texas Water Code.

1. Obtain an Application for a Place on the Ballot from the District office or download it below.
2. Complete the application, including the precinct sought, and have the required signatures notarized where indicated.
3. File the application with the District's designated election official during the filing period.
4. File the required campaign treasurer appointment with the District before accepting contributions or making expenditures.
5. Comply with campaign finance reporting deadlines set by the Texas Ethics Commission.

Voter Information

Voters must be registered in Hidalgo County and reside within the District boundaries. Acceptable forms of photo identification and the procedures for voting by mail are the same as those used in county elections. Notices of election are posted at the District office and published in a newspaper of general circulation as required by law.
